Provocatively Joyous Designs: Odd Blossom Marmalade Brand Identity
Odd Blossom Marmalade was created from a passion for baking up creative flavour combinations that delight foodies and an odd obsession for experimenting with marmalade. The result is a small batch marmalade business that pleases foodies and dares skeptics to discover how much they f***ing love marmalade. These are the provocatively joyous designs created for their brand identity.
The logo and name were designed to be provocatively joyous with saturated organic graphics and invitingly whimsical typography. The focus is on the words “Odd Blossom,” with the word “Marmalade” noticeable but serving as a product descriptor. The logo is also easily translatable to black and white or single colour for various applications.
The logo was designed to work well for labelling, content development, and brand packaging. It is a design that works within a greater design system for LA locals and farmer’s market aficionados to embrace. It draws the attention from passersby, warrants an educational gab session, and gets people talking. Along with the identity system, the logo represents the magic of preserves handmade with locally-sourced ingredients.
Illustrations, Patterns & Labels
Illustrations create a visual metaphor for the vibrant flavours of the marmalades. Due to the deceivingly drab colour of natural marmalade, that doesn’t visually translate to their robust taste, we decided to make illustrations vibrant and colourful like the flavours they represent. The result is a collection of illustrations that can be used as a part of a greater design system that enhances their appeal.
Unique patterns were designed for each flavour profile in a shared hand-drawn style. “Odd hand-crafted combinations that simply work” became the basis for creating these designs. Stylized ingredients illustrated in harmonious patterns that included the “odd” blossom created visual connections to the logo and helped to create visual consistency.

The greatest part of developing a brand identity is bringing a client’s business aspirations and desired perception to the forefront. Everything from messaging to colour choices were carefully considered in order to position the Odd Blossom Marmalade brand as the ideal bespoke marmalade for foodies and daring skeptics alike.
Each composition is intended to look slightly odd and joyous, sometimes in a provocative way including slang and cheekiness. The entire brand is like a celebratory love letter to marmalade lovers.
